Technical FAQ
Performance – Manifold Pressure
An engine acts like an air pump, where volumetric flow changes with RPM. Engine load limits maximum RPM at WOT. Factors that affect engine load on an aircraft include propeller size and airframe drag.
A manifold pressure gauge is highly recommended for all installations, whether a Rotec TBI Fuel System is used or not. Not only can the efficiency of a fuel metering device be determined, but also can also give an indication of engine power produced when compared to RPM. An RPM gauge alone will not tell the pilot if the engine is slowly losing power.
