Motivation

Many instruments can resulting in the Jabiru charging system strained, especially during taxiing.
Additionally a permanent magnate alternator can only rectify the flux created from rotational motion, but not regulate it. Put simply, charging ability is limited to engine rpm.
As noted in Jabiru pilots hand book.
3.10 Power Generation System Limitations
When the engine is turning at approximately 2000 RPM and above the alternator produces sufficient power for all lights to be run continuously. However, below this RPM the alternator cannot produce this power output and power must be drawn from the battery if all electrical systems are running. To reduce the load on the alternator, Jabiru Aircraft recommend only using the Landing Light for takeoff and landing – turning it off during normal cruise operations and wherever safe while taxiing.
This limitation is eliminated with the Rotec Aerosport – Jabiru Alternator Upgrade Kit.
Solution

Dual standard alternators installed on Jabiru 5100 to increase charging system ability.

Jabiru Alternator Upgrade FAQ
What is the added weight upgrading my alternator?
The alternator Conversion kit adds approximately 5 lb (2.2kg) to your total engine weight.
What is the added length to the engine?
The upgraded alternator adds no length to the engine. It meets to approximately the same engine length as the standard Bing Carburetor found on the Jabiru engine.
What if the alternator belt fails? What is the likelihood of this happening?
The alternator belt is to be inspected every 100 hours. In the most unlikely event of the alternator belt failing the engine would continue running using the battery power for approximately 45 minutes. This should give the pilot enough time for an emergency landing.
