Subject: TBI-34-S Sonex Jabiru 2200G/day Paul from Ian Mitchell at Benalla. You probably recall about 6 months ago I fitted a TBI-40 to a new Jabiru 2200 engine in a Sonex that I built. We had some throat size issues at the beginning but after switching to the 34mm throat things have been going well. I have just done a 50 hr service so thought it time to give you a report. We finished up with the TBI 34mm and latest configured spray bar. The results have been very good. The engine starts well hot or cold. Idles as smooth as silk, it has never idled so well, top end performance is excellent.
I have total control of the mixture from rich for take off to lean for cruise, the metering regulator really does its job, no matter what my fuel level, pressure or planes attitude the regulator keeps the mixture exactly where I set it. My fuel consumption over the last 20 hrs has worked out at 13.25 liters/hr! This is at a cruise of about 105 kts.
In short I am happy.
Have sent some photos which may help others. I Would be happy to talk to anyone fitting a TBI to a Sonex.
Thanks. Ian.
